Why We Opened Our Custom Build PC Shop
Our Story Begins
At On The Spot Computer Repairs, located in the heart of Cambridge, MA, we’ve been a cornerstone in the community for over 13 years. Our journey started with a simple mission: to provide the best computer repair services. Over time, we saw a growing need for custom build PCs, which led us to open our custom build PC shop. Here’s why we decided to take this exciting leap.
The Birth of an Idea
I’ve been repairing computers for over 15 years and building them for the last 25 years. Over the years, I’ve encountered countless custom build PCs from well-known makers like iBUYPOWER, CyberPowerPC, Dell, and others. While these companies offer flashy marketing and sleek designs, a deeper dive into their builds often revealed a different story. Despite their high price tags, many of these machines contained subpar components that failed more often than they should.
The Problem
As a technician, I found the lack of transparency in the components used by big brands to be a constant source of frustration. They would advertise a 1TB SSD but not disclose the brand behind the drive. The same applied to power supplies, coolers, and memory. Even graphics cards, often listed by their original names like Nvidia GeForce 4060ti, do not reveal the card’s manufacturer. For instance, they wouldn’t specify if it was an ASUS ROG Strix Nvidia GeForce 4060ti or a Zotac Nvidia GeForce 4060ti Gaming Twin Edge, as both cards have differences in performance and price.
Our Solution
Because of this, we decided to open our shop where customers know exactly what they’re getting. We hand-select every component for our custom builds, testing and comparing them to ensure they are reliable and high-performing. And as a repair shop, we’ve learned to stay clear of the components that repeatedly come in due to failure. This way, our customers receive nothing but the best in their builds. We believe in complete transparency, so every part we use is listed and explained.
Thinking Ahead
When choosing cases and building designs, we consider future upgrades. We steer clear of hard-to-build cheap cases that often break down the line. Our goal is for our customers to upgrade their components without having to spend a lot of money. This means picking cases that are easy to work with and components that offer great longevity and can be upgraded in the future.
Community First
As a small shop, we only offer local pickup from our location. However, we have plans to expand and begin shipping custom computers outside our local market. Regardless of this growth, we will always focus on serving our community in Cambridge, MA, Boston, MA, Somerville, MA, and the surrounding areas. You are the heart of our business.
Filling the Market Gap
At the heart of our venture is the desire to offer something that isn’t available in the market right now: high-quality, custom-built PCs with full transparency and the best customer service. We’re not just building computers; we’re building trust and relationships with our customers.
Our Why
So, why did we open our custom build PC shop? It’s simple. We want to offer our customers a transparent, high-quality, and reliable alternative to the big brands. We want our customers to know precisely what they’re getting and feel confident about their purchase. This is our why, and it drives everything we do at On The Spot Computer Repairs.
If you’re considering a custom build PC, we invite you to visit our shop and see the difference for yourself. Explore our custom build lineup and experience the transparency and quality that sets us apart. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
